About

On Wednesday 19 May, CERRE Research Fellow Wolter Lemstra will speak as a panellist at the final stakeholder workshop for the European Commission’s 5G Supply Market Trends project, launched in September 2020.

The workshop will contribute towards the Commission’s qualitative and quantitative analysis of 4G and 5G equipment and services supply market trends, designed to help define future scenarios and identify policy options. The expert panel will discuss the outcomes of a scenario impact assessment and aim to advance the EU’s policy options for the development of 5G. The focus will be on which development pathways for 5G should be avoided or strengthened, and key uncertainties, risks and opportunities for Europe.

Other speakers include:

  • Harald Gruber, Head of the Digital Economy division, Projects Directorate of the European Investment Bank
  • Dimitra Simeonidou, Professor at the University of Bristol (and Co-Director of the University’s Institute of Digital Futures) and Director of Smart Internet Lab
  • Seppo Yrjölä, Professor of Practice and Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, University of Oulu

The workshop is open for all interested participants from 1) mobile network operators, 2) vendors of equipment and services and related associations, 3) open initiatives and standardisation bodies, 4) European and EU Member State policy makers, and 5) vertical industries/services potentially benefitting from 5G technologies.
