Digital Platforms Summit 2027

The Digital Platforms Summit is CERRE’s flagship annual conference on the regulation and governance of digital platforms, bringing together leading policymakers, regulators, industry representatives, academics and civil society to examine the most important questions shaping Europe’s digital markets.

The 2027 edition will take place at a moment when new technological and political developments are fundamentally reshaping platform regulation.

The rise of agentic AI is challenging some of the assumptions on which today’s platform economy and regulatory framework are built, while posing new questions for competition policy. Meanwhile, the political debate over online safety has intensified, with the recent announcement of the EU Kids Act proposal and the Commission developing its Digital Fairness Act initiative.

Against this backdrop, the 2027 Summit will ask how well equipped Europe’s digital rulebook is for the next generation of platform technologies, business models, and social challenges – and how pressure to manage and adapt to these changes can be reconciled with the EU’s competitiveness objectives. Discussions will examine the lessons emerging from the implementation and enforcement of the DMA and DSA, the future of digital fairness and consumer protection.

The Summit will also look at the broader question of where platform regulation goes next. How should Europe adapt its regulatory approach as technology, business models and political expectations evolve? How can different parts of the EU digital rulebook work together rather than creating overlapping or contradictory obligations? And how should regulators respond when technological change moves faster than legislation?
