The Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) is pleased to announce that Bruno Liebhaberg has been elected as Executive Chairman of the Board. He will hold this position in conjunction with his current role as Director General of the think tank until further notice. Furthermore, existing members of the Board, Clara Poletti, member of the Council of ARERA, the Italian energy and water regulator, and also Chair of the ACER Board of Regulators, and Pascal Lamy, former Director General of the WTO and former EU Commissioner for Trade, have been nominated as Vice Chairs and, along with Eric De Keuleneer, will also serve on the newly created Strategic Committee of the Board.
The CERRE Board advises and decides on strategy, and counsels on the research programme. It controls the annual accounts and establishes the yearly budget. The Board is composed of high-level representatives from member organisations (regulators, corporations, and academia) as well as select independent members.
With the upcoming completion of his mandate at the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation, William Emery is stepping down as Chairman of the Board. CERRE would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Emery for his valuable and dedicated contributions as Chairman over the past 12 years.
Similarly, following the end of his mandate as the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) Chair, Professor Martin Cave is also resigning as a member of the Board. CERRE expresses its appreciation to Professor Cave for his significant contribution to the think tank’s activities, notably as CERRE’s first Academic Director.
In recognition of their invaluable expertise, Dr William Emery and Prof. Martin Cave have both been appointed as Senior Advisors, ensuring their continued involvement with the think tank.
The appointment of new board members is contingent upon ratification at the forthcoming General Assembly in June 2024, as stipulated by the bylaws.
