CERRE in POLITICO: European Green Deal

The European Commission just published its Green Deal to make Europe climate neutral by 2050. To realise this, a soft approach from Brussels probably won’t work. This will require a change in governance, with a larger role for Brussels.

But will member states agree to that?

Máximo Miccinilli, CERRE’s Energy Director, talked to Politico: “My fear is that there will be two Europes: the group of member states that will move ahead like Denmark, or the Netherlands, and other member states that will say, ‘We don’t follow any more. It’s so far from what we can achieve; this is not improvement anymore’ ”.

Máximo Miccinilli* was Director, Energy & Climate at the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE), leading the think tank’s research and activities related to energy and climate.

He was previously leading the public affairs and communications activities of European Aluminium where he managed international campaigns on energy and climate matters. 

Prior to this, he was a manager in the energy and climate practice at Burson-Marsteller Brussels (now BCW), a leading global PA and PR agency. 

Earlier in his career, he worked for the Italian Ministry of European Affairs and the European Commission on single market and external policies. 

He holds a MA in European Law from the College of Europe (Bruges) and a MBA in Business and Finances from the Solvay Business School (Brussels).

Lauriane was Senior Manager for Communications at the Centre on Regulation in Europe (CERRE) from April 2018 to December 2020. She led all aspects of the think tank’s communication, including relations with the press, online and offline communications.  

Previously in her career, Lauriane worked with Burson-Marsteller (BCW), a leading public relations firm, where she specialised in science and political communication. She has worked on numerous communication campaigns at UN, EU and national levels with a focus on Corporate Social Responsibility. 

She holds a Master in public relations and crisis communication from the IHECS (Institute for Higher Social Communication Studies).
