CERRE at Tech Policy Talks: “What’s Next for the Mobile Ecosystem?”

On Thursday 19 May 2022, CERRE Academic Director, Alexandre de Streel, will join the discussion panel titled “What’s Next for the Mobile Ecosystem?” taking place from 14:00-16:00 CEST at the event ‘Tech Policy Talks‘ organised by Forum Europe and Qualcomm.

The panel discussion will look at the evolution of the mobile ecosystem on both sides of the Atlantic, and analyse the developments in tech and competition policy, in the context of the recently agreed Digital Markets Act in Europe, the emerging legislative activity in the US, and the imminent work of the Trade and Technology Council.

CERRE Academic Director, Alexandre de Streel, will be joined by:

  • Christiane Canenbley, Deputy Head of Cabinet, Executive Vice President Vestager, European Commission
  • Bill Baer, Visiting Fellow, Brookings Institution, former Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Antitrust Division of the US Department of Justice
  • Gene Burrus, Director Global Competition Policy, Spotify
  • Paul Adamson, Chairman, Forum Europe (Moderator)

This online event will be streamed to an invitation-only audience of around 200 senior stakeholders, composed of policymakers, regulators, businesses, and civil society.

Alexandre de Streel is the Academic Director of the digital research programme at CERRE and Professor of European law at the University of Namur where he chairs the Namur Digital Institute (NADI). Alexandre is also visiting professor at the College of Europe (Bruges) and SciencesPo Paris. Besides, he chairs the expert group on the online platform economy advising the European Commission and is a part-time judge at the Belgian Competition Authority.

His main areas of research are regulation and competition policy in the digital economy as well as the legal issues raised by the developments of artificial intelligence.

Previously, Alexandre held visiting positions at New York University Law School, European University Institute in Florence, Barcelona Graduate School of Economics and University of Louvain. He also worked for the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister, the Belgian Permanent Representation to the European Union and the European Commission.
