ISSUE PAPER | Passenger mobility in a digital society: New challenges for competition, transport policies and regulation

Passenger transport in Europe is undergoing a profound transformation as a result of the digitisation of mobility. As in other industries, the development of the internet and the diffusion of mobile phones have changed mobility practices. This CERRE Mobility paper was prepared in conjunction with a CERRE Executive Seminar, which analysed these changes and considered the likely developments. The paper discusses new “business models” and their impacts on intra-modal and intermodal competition, and goes on to project the impacts of this new organisation of the sector on economic regulation the respective roles of the private and public sectors

Martin Cave is a Visiting Professor at the Imperial College London. He was an Academic Co-Director at CERRE.

He is a regulatory economist specialising in competition law and in the network industries, including airports, broadcasting, energy, posts, railways, telecommunications and water.

Professor Cave has published extensively in these fields, and has held professorial positions at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, and the Department of Economics, Brunel University.

Martin Cave is a Visiting Professor at the Imperial College London. He was an Academic Co-Director at CERRE.
