Passenger transport in Europe is undergoing a profound transformation as a result of the digitisation of mobility. As in other industries, the development of the internet and the diffusion of mobile phones have changed mobility practices. This CERRE Mobility paper was prepared in conjunction with a CERRE Executive Seminar, which analysed these changes and considered the likely developments. The paper discusses new “business models” and their impacts on intra-modal and intermodal competition, and goes on to project the impacts of this new organisation of the sector on economic regulation the respective roles of the private and public sectors
