CERRE Founder and Director General, Bruno Liebhaberg, hosted two exclusive fireside chats at this year’s Clean Energy Summit. Held on March 18, the summit convened more than 150 stakeholders from both industry and EU politics, providing a fruitful platform for discussions to further push the clean energy agenda on a global scale.
In the first of these engaging sessions, Bruno Liebhaberg hosted Pierre Schellekens, Director for Energy Policy, Strategy and Coordination for DG ENER, European Commission. The dialogue centred on CERRE’s strategic policy recommendations for the forthcoming Commission term, in view of the implementation of the Green Deal legislation. Schellekens underscored the critical need for a robust investment agenda involving the private sector, and to improve among other measures the digitalisation of Europe’s energy grids in order to achieve the energy transition in the most cost-efficient way.
Then, Bruno Liebhaberg was joined by Kurt Vandenberghe, Director General of DG CLIMA, European Commission. The conversation focused on strategies for Europe to achieve its climate targets. During the discussion, Vandenberghe confirmed that the upcoming term will focus on the implementation and acceleration of the Green Deal. He stressed that this will require a more integrated approach between European and national efforts.
