He shared his expertise regarding the transformative nature of the Digital Services Act (DSA), emphasising that it marks the departure from the previously unregulated environment in which digital platform operated.
Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of the DSA’s requirement for platforms to assess and mitigate systemic risks they can possibly pose to democracy and fundamental rights. This is, de Streel noted, a groundbreaking aspect of the DSA, as it focuses on holding platforms accountable rather than merely monitoring content generated by users.
